Principal Consultant - Data and AI

We have put this role in New Zealand to attact our kiwi data professionals looking to move across to Australia. This will be based in Adelaide, not remote. Principal Consultant, Data & AI 📍Adelaide, hybrid working arrangements 💰 $190,000-$210,000 + super per annum 💼 Permanent role Snowflake (essential) | Databricks | AWS / Microsoft Azure | Data architecture, data modelling, and data engineering | AI enabled delivery, board reporting automation, and real time industrial data platforms The Opportunity This is a chance to join a consulting business that has grown significantly over the past two years and is targeting further growth this financial year. This is an opportunity to shape a growing team and for someone to step up and grow into more senior roles as they build out the practice. What You'll Be Doing Client delivery and advisory Lead client engagements end to end, from scoping and planning through to contracting and execution Work across data architecture, data modelling, engineering, and advisory depending on what each client needs Help solve business problems rather than only delivering technical outputs Advise clients on architecture and vendor choices, comparing technologies rather than defaulting to one Design and develop high quality business solutions that create value and improve business performance Leverage knowledge of client issues and objectives to manage the scope and quality of the areas of a project you own Technical delivery Design, implement, and maintain complex data engineering solutions to acquire and prepare data Contribute to projects such as board reporting automation, AI enabled self service analytics, and real time industrial data platforms Maintain awareness of trends in industry, technology, and methodology Contribute to quality reviews on technical tasks, both your own and others Stakeholder and team leadership Engage with senior stakeholders, including executive level contacts Communicate complex technical information fluently to both technical and non technical audiences Lead medium to large projects, including teams of 4 or more people over 5+ months Coach and mentor junior team members Take an active role in building client relationships, growing the Adelaide footprint, and supporting business development activities Contribute to proposal development, collateral, and the firm's internal methodologies What They're Looking For Must-haves Strong background across data architecture, data modelling, and data engineering 7 to 10 years of broad data experience, particularly leading data and analytics projects Snowflake experience (essential) Tertiary qualification in an IT related field, or equivalent relevant work experience Experience translating business requirements into data warehouse, business intelligence, and analytics solutions Strong track record delivering client-facing projects Ability to operate broadly rather than as a one dimensional specialist Strong business acumen, comfortable talking about business problems solved rather than just tools used Stakeholder management capability, with confidence operating in large enterprise environments Excellent written and verbal communication skills Nice-to-haves AWS or Microsoft Azure experience Databricks experience Data science experience Consulting background (strong enterprise candidates will still be considered) AI aware mindset, comfortable with AI enabled ways of working and clear-eyed about where AI falls short Experience working with large, complex organisations in enterprise environments Relocation candidates are in scope, given the tight Adelaide market What Success Looks Like Within the first few months, you're building credibility with the Adelaide client base and the wider team, taking ownership of the signed contract's delivery, and starting to shape how the practice pitches architecture and vendor decisions to clients. Over time, you're recognised as someone who can move between architecture, delivery, advisory, and stakeholder management without missing a beat, and you're actively contributing to growing the Adelaide footprint, mentoring junior consultants, and shaping proposals that win new work.
