Castelli-Design partners closely with clients and project teams to create lighting environments that are visually compelling, efficient, and practical to operate. Role Description The Lighting Designer will work on-site in New York, NY in a full-time capacity, collaborating with architects, interior designers, engineers, and clients to develop integrated lighting solutions for a range of architectural projects. Daily responsibilities include preparing lighting plans, sections, and details; selecting fixtures and technologies; and producing documentation such as specifications, schedules, and presentation materials. The role involves performing photometric calculations, contributing to control system layouts, and coordinating with project teams to ensure design intent is maintained through construction. The Lighting Designer will participate in client meetings, review submittals, support site visits and punch lists, and help ensure designs meet sustainability, code, and budget requirements. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong skills in Lighting Design and Architectural Lighting for commercial, residential, and institutional projects. Candidates should possess skills in Lighting and Lighting Control, including familiarity with dimming systems, control strategies, and energy codes. Candidates should possess skills in Interior Design concepts as they relate to integrating lighting with materials, finishes, and spatial layouts. Proficiency with relevant design and documentation tools (e.g., AutoCAD/Revit, lighting calculation software, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office) is beneficial. Strong visual, technical, and written communication skills, with the ability to explain design concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively in an on-site studio environment. Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field, or comparable professional experience. Knowledge of sustainability principles, building and energy codes, and current lighting technologies (LED, controls, smart systems) is a plus.
